What is Yarnu?

How long are the stories?
About 10, 20 or 30 minutes, you choose. They are proper stories in real chapters, with a beginning, a middle and an ending. The first chapter starts playing in under a minute and the rest arrives while you listen.
Where are my children’s details stored?
On your phone, and only there. Yarnu uses a child’s name, age and the things they love to write the story you asked for, and never stores them on our servers. We don’t ask for photos, birth dates, or anything about skin colour or ethnicity.
How are stories kept suitable for children?
Every story is checked for suitability before a single word is read aloud, and Yarnu invents its own characters rather than borrowing ones from films or games. There are no ads and no tracking. Stories are written and narrated with artificial intelligence, so a grown-up should still choose what their child listens to.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once a story is downloaded. Stories are saved in your family library and can be downloaded for offline listening, which helps on journeys. Making a new story needs an internet connection. Playback carries on with the screen off.
How much does Yarnu cost?
Your first 3 stories are free. After that, Yarnu Pro gives you 30 new stories a month for £6.99 a month or £49.99 a year. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play or the App Store.
Who creates the account?
A grown-up. Yarnu is for families, so an adult signs up, adds the children, and gates settings, subscriptions and links behind a grown-up question.
Which voices can I choose?
Four narrators, two British and two American, and you can choose how lively the story is, from a sleepy wind-down to an edge-of-your-seat adventure.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. In the app, open Settings and choose Delete account, and every story is removed permanently. If you no longer have the app, email hello@getyarnu.com and we will do it for you. The help page has the details.
