Who we are
Yarnu is made by Dora Software Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17482674), whose registered office is at 124-128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, England, UK. Dora Software Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. Contact: hello@getyarnu.com.
Yarnu is for parents
Yarnu accounts are for adults. Children listen to the stories; they do not use an account of their own, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
What we collect and why
- Your account: your email address and a password (stored by Amazon Cognito; we never see your password). Used to sign you in and to reset your password.
- Your stories: the idea you type, the finished story's text and audio, the first names of the children in it, and when it was made. Kept in your family's private library until you delete the story or your account.
- Your subscription: whether your family has Yarnu Pro and how many stories you've used this month. Purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store; RevenueCat tells us whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment details.
- Stories you report: if you report a story from the app, we keep your reason, any note you add, and a copy of the story, so a person can look into it even if you later delete the story. Reports are deleted with your account.
Your children's details stay on your phone
When you add a child (first name, age, how they'd like to be described, hair and eye colour, things they love, their best friends' first names) or a family member or pet, those details are saved only on your phone. When you ask for a story, they are sent with that one request so the story can be written, and then discarded: we do not store them in our databases or write them to our logs. We deliberately do not ask for photos, dates of birth, skin colour, ethnicity or anything similar. The finished story naturally contains the names you chose, including a best friend's first name when a story brings one in, and is kept in your private library as above. Please only add friends' first names, and only if you're comfortable with them appearing in your family's stories.
Who processes your information
- Amazon Web Services hosts Yarnu in London (eu-west-2), where your account, your stories and their audio are stored. AWS also provides the services that write stories (Amazon Bedrock) and read them aloud (Amazon Polly). Amazon Bedrock does not use your content to train models.
- RevenueCat, based in the United States, manages subscription status on our behalf and gives us subscription reports (how many families subscribe, renew or cancel). It sees your purchases and an account ID, not your stories or your children's details.
- Google Play / Apple App Store handle purchases under their own privacy policies.
We don't sell your information, show ads, or use analytics or tracking inside the app beyond those subscription reports.
Transfers outside the UK
Your information is stored in the UK. Two things happen outside the UK and Europe:
- Writing a story. To write each story, Amazon Bedrock may process your story request, including the children's details you chose to add to it, in AWS data centres anywhere in the world, for example in the United States. It is used only to write that story, is not stored there, and is not used to train models.
- Subscriptions. RevenueCat processes your subscription status and an account ID in the United States.
These transfers are protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, which are part of AWS's and RevenueCat's data processing terms with us. You can ask us for a copy at hello@getyarnu.com.
How long we keep it
Stories are kept until you delete them. Reports are kept until you delete your account. Your account and everything in it is kept until you delete your account.
Deleting your data
You can delete any story from its page, and your whole account from Settings → Delete account in the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your sign-in, every story and its audio, any reports you made, and your subscription record with RevenueCat. Cancel any subscription in your app store first — deleting the account does not cancel it. Children's details can be removed from the Kids screen, or by uninstalling the app.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your information, and object to or restrict how it's used. Email hello@getyarnu.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Story audio can only be fetched through short-lived links issued to your own account.
